The Kangla

The Kangla, or the Kangla Fort, is a symbol of the glorious past of the Meetei rulers of Manipur. It is an old fortified palace in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, situated on the bank of river Imphal. Kangla was the former capital of Manipur in ancient times. The Kangla is a revered spot for the people of the state and is being proposed to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite its cultural richness, this site fails to acquire a popular identity on the tourism map of the Northeast.
