If you are planning to visit Kohima, add the name of Khonoma, the first green village in India, to your must-visit list. Khonoma is an Angami Naga village located about 20 km from Kohima on its west. Khonoma is named after Khwüno-ra (GloutheraFragrantissima, a local plant name in the Angami language). Angami Naga warriors from this village fought a series of battles against the Britishers to resist enforcing Nagas as bonded laborers during 1830-1880. At last, on 13 October 1879, all their measures went in vain, followed by the enforcement of bonded laborers by the British government.
