The Cathedral of Kohima

Mary Help of Christians Church or, The Cathedral of Kohima is the main church of the Diocese of Nagaland. The church architecture incorporates many elements of traditional Naga houses, acclaimed by all visitors. The massive carved wood crucifix (16 feet high) is one of the largest crosses in Asia. The cathedral complex holds the tomb of Bishop Alangimattathil. Japanese people bored the expanses to build a monument in the memories of the Japanese soldiers, who died during the Second World War in the Battle of Kohima. Hence, they funded the construction expense of the cathedral.
