Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary located the south of Kolkata. Also known as Kayal-r Bagan, this bird sanctuary is famous for housing a range of birds, butterflies, orchids, ferns, and many other plant species. Situated at a distance of 20 km from central Kolkata, it was given the status of sanctuary in 1982. Earlier named Narendrapur Wildlife Sanctuary, this bird sanctuary was renamed in honor of celebrated sculptor Chintamoni Kar. This sanctuary houses several bird species - Ashy drongo, Asian koel (Eudynamys Scolopaceo), Brown fish owl (Ketupa Zeylonensis), Shikra, Bronzed drongo (Dicruridae), Indian pond heron, Cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis), etc.
